As the 14th Dalai Lama ages considerably, Buddhist monks from around the globe are contemplating if he should reincarnate or not. According to Buddhist scriptures, which follow the theory of karma, a person’s good deeds decide how he would be reincarnated in the next life.
However, people who attained moksha have the choice of picking the body they wish to be reincarnated in. Now, the Dalai Lama has been the face of the face of the nonviolent struggle by the Tibetans against China who slaughtered more than ten thousand Tibetans during the communist rule. Recently with China claiming Tibet to be a part of it, claimed that Beijing will be the ones to approve of the reincarnated Dalai Lama.
This led to the 14th Dalai Lama to relinquish all his power to the Central Tibetan Administration. According to the words of the Dalai Lama, the Chinese see the Buddhist as terrorists and their atheist government will lead to manipulation and misuse of the powers of Dalai Lama. Hence, he will first have a word with the authorities of the Central Tibetan Administration, of whether to even continue the legacy of the reincarnated Dalai Lama.
Besides, if the Chinese intervened then it’s unsure whether the prestigious legacy of Dalai Lama would even continue. In that case, it’s best to break the legacy of choosing a reincarnated Dalai Lama. However, the 14th Dalai Lama also commented that if required its better than the people elect the next Dalai Lama based on skill. At least then the government will have no say in the matter. Moreover, until he reaches the age of 90, the question of the next Dalai Lama doesn’t arise until 2015.
Speculations are arising as to whether China will try to rename their own Dalai Lama, or the system will itself be terminated. However, Tibetans are anxious, they don’t wish to stop the legacy, and thereby is standing strong with the Central Tibetan Administration as only they have the power to fight the Chinese.
