IRS Recognizes Satanic Temple as Church Officially In The United States

The IRS has officially recognized the Satanic Temple as Church in the United States and also granted it a tax exemption status. This is reportedly the first satanic religion in the United States that has officially granted such a status to a temple.

What does a tax exemption status mean? When a church or religious body is granted with a tax exemption status it means, as in case of the Satanic Temple, it means that the temple has the same legal protections just like the other religions and that also includes the access to the public spaces as other religious organizations, it also includes affirming its standings in the court while battling about the religious discriminations. Finally, the grant also means the satanic temple would be able to apply for the faith-based government grants.

Previously the Satanic Temple had rejected pursuing the tax exemption status but later the president of the church Lucien Greaves reversed this verdict in 2017 after the US President Donald Trump signed off an executive order for religious freedom.

The Church President wrote in a newsletter of the Satanic Temple that the religious were gaining grounds increasingly as a privileged class and it was necessary to ensure that the privilege was available to everyone. It was important that the superstitions did not gain control over the non-theistic religions and the non-beliefs.

He also said that the group must also ensure that the atheistic and secular non-profits that are advancing towards a distinctive religious option upon religion are themselves the rightful beneficiaries of the tax exemptions for religion too.
