New Video Story Shows Increased Suppression of Islam in China_s Xinjiang

A new video story revealed by BBC indicated the increasing suppression and control of Islam in Xibjiang, one of the far western region in China. The video story was released in the official website of the news broadcaster and it revealed the parts of the area where the mosques were being demolished.

The Chinese authorities provided rare access to the religious sites while the senior Islamic officials very given the rare opportunity of  claiming that these policies targeted only the violent religious extremism, not faith itself. The report also showed notices to be put up on different places restricting men from keep long beards in the region of Xinjiang. The region of Xinjiang is considered to be an area with Muslims and keeping long beards is one of their common practices.

The videos also showed mosques dating back to the 17th century to be destroyed allegedly.
