Pope Francis said that there is no room for the people who are actively gay in the priestly ministry. In a lengthy interview, the pope said that the persons, who have this deep rooted tendency, should not be welcomed into the consecrated life or the priestly ministry. According to the teachings of the church, homosexual tendencies are not considered to be sinful, but, the homosexual acts are.

In that interview, which is to be published as a book in many languages, the pope said that the questions regarding homosexuality should be considered very seriously. According to him, the persons, who are to train the men to be priests, should be certain that they are emotionally mature before they are ordained.

The same rule is also applied for the women who are to enter the religious communities.

The pope said that it is better for such persons to leave the consecrated life entirely rather than living a double life.

Just after the interview took place, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, the former ambassador to the Vatican, threw a bombshell statement against the pope and the officials of the Vatican. He accused that there is a homosexual network within the Vatican. The members of this network help to promote the careers of other members in the church.

He also threw accusations against the Pope and said that he overlooked the alleged sexual wrongdoings of the American Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.

These types of accusation are not anything new for the church. For the last two decades, pieces of evidence of thousands of cases against the clergymen surfaced around the world.

McCarrick, however, became the first cardinal who resigned from the post in last 100 year. He had to resign after the church officials of United States said that proof has been found that he had abused a boy about 50 years ago.
