The data comes from a poll conducted in the month of June and the aim of the poll was to find out the confidence level among the Americans in the church or the organized religion and also 14 other different institutions.
One of the main factors that impacted the level of confidence among people in the church was the news of serial sex abuse by the priests in the church and the authorities doing nothing on it. This resulted in the drop of confidence level by 45%. Although the figures made a slight recovery to 50% after the scandal came to light but as far as the overall percentages are concerned, the percentage regularly registered in the 40s. In fact in 2018-2019, the confidence among the Americans for organized religion remained under 40%.
The survey also registered a decline in confidence among the Catholics in the United States besides the fall in church attendance and also the views of the ethical standards of the priests. The reports of only 36% having faith on the organized religion are much less in comparison to the 48% of the Protestants. In addition to the 36% a tiny 8% who has no affiliation to any religion reported of having confidence in an organized religion.
