Five men abused sexually when they were minors by the Roman Catholic Priests have planned to sue the Vatican and also demanding to know the names of the priests involved in the incident. The victims claimed that their names were kept secret by the Holy See.
The Minnesota attorney Jeff Anderson said that he wanted to show through the lawsuit that the Vatican tried to cover up the cases and it was done by the top church officials including the names of former St Paul Minneapolis Archbishop, John Nienstedt.
The lawsuit that was filed aimed to release the names of at least 3,400 priests who were named to the Vatican for their involvement in cases of sexual abuse. The present numbers were released by the Vatican in 2014.
The new lawsuit that has been filed came in less than a week after Pope Francis issued an important and new church law under which all the Catholic priests and nuns around the world needed to report any kind of clergy abuse cases as well as cases that have been covered up by the superiors to the church authorities.
This new law is part of the effort of making the Catholic Hierarchy accountable. However, one thing the new law falls short of is reporting the crimes and sexual abuses to the police. The victims who have been abused sexually say that the law is not enough as it tasks the discredited bishops involved in mishandling abuse more than decades by policing their own.
In the present case the three men include three brothers who were abused by former Roman Catholic Priest when they were minors.
